The house was built with reinforced concrete and steel structure and then clad in wood. This mountain home is full of light and surrounded by gardens predominantly characterized by water. The owners sought out a site that was ravaged by erosion and contained no vegetation to avoid destroying any pristine landscape in the construction of the project- it is a site that also allows the opportunity to regenerate local flora and fauna.
The house consists of two conceptual elements: two glass-formed bases separated across the property and a timber volume that acts as a linear bridge spanning the two volumes
The water surfaces that round the house were dimensioned by a swimming pool and a bio filter pond with studied levels and extensions. The water surfaces and their specific aquatic plants made a flooded garden possible, excavated on the hillside, directly in contact with the internal common area activities. This flooded garden also provides an important fresh air supply necessary to control and manage the summer high temperatures.
On the ground levels we find the social areas enclosed within by sliding glass walls inteded to open the space to the exterior allowing the views and breeze. Wooden platforms project over the surrounding lush garden and sunken pond nourishes vegetation and supports the local ecosystem. The Pool area has a sauna, jacuzzi, hot tu, and dressing rooms
Sustainability: Solar panels, water treatment plant, pool does not require use of chemicals, water rights and 3 wells. An orchard and over 700 Avocado trees have been planted and production is intended to cover the maintenance costs of the property.
On the upper level, branching out from the double-height living,we have 3 spacious bedrooms (2 en suite). Placed in a linear fashion each room has views over the yard and valley. A stunning staircase staircase and a bridge give direct access to the outdoors.
